PVC or Polyvinyl chloride

PVC is an atactic and therefore basically amorphous polymer. It is amorphous, transparent and relatively permeable to water vapour.

PVC offers excellent rigidity up to temperatures around its glass transition temperature.

PVC has excellent resistance to abrasion. PVC is fragile on impact at low temperatures.

Non laminated PVC has good resistance (up to 60°C) to acids and bases as well as oils, alcohols and aliphatic hydrocarbons. However, it is sensitive to aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons.

PVC has good insulating properties. It breaks down in a flame, releasing hydrochloric acid gas, but is self extinguishing.

This material is not transformed as such by Gaggione. However, some custom inserts for standard boxes are made in transparent PVC, giving the impression that the product is floating in air.
